National Chambal Sanctuary is rich in biodiversity including 60 species of mammals 308 species of birds, 56 species of reptiles, 148 species of fish, 37 species of butterflies apart from vast variety of other vertebrate and invertebrates. National Chambal Sanctuary have the largest contiguous and most viable breeding population of critically endangered Gharial and Red-Crowned Roofed Turtle. Other important species are Indian Skimmer, Gangetic Dolphin, Mahasheer and Smooth-Coated Otter.
